FormlyConvert Privacy Policy
This policy explains how FormlyConvert handles documents and other data in its iOS app. For privacy questions, contact formlyconvert@gmail.com.
Files and local processing
Ordinary file conversions take place on your device and do not upload file content to FormlyConvert servers. The Document Assistant extracts readable text from a selected PDF on your device, using OCR where needed. Imported files, results and History information may be stored locally. Files selected from iCloud Drive or another storage provider may also be subject to that provider’s syncing. You control copies you export or share.
Optional iCloud Library sync
Library sync is off by default and is available to Pro subscribers. If you turn it on in Settings, the app copies the files saved in your Library, together with a small list of their names, tools, dates, folders and pins, into the app’s folder in your iCloud Drive (shown as “Formly” in the Files app), so your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account can show the same Library. This data is stored in your iCloud account and handled under Apple’s own privacy practices; it does not pass through a FormlyConvert server. Deleting a Library item while sync is on also removes it from your other devices. Turning sync off stops new copies; files already in iCloud Drive stay there until you delete them.
Share extension and widgets
When you share files to FormlyConvert from another app, they are copied into a storage area on your device that only the app and its extensions can use, and are moved into the app when it opens; shares you cancel are removed. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the names, types and small previews of your most recent Library files, which the app writes to the same on-device area. Nothing is uploaded for these features.
Optional Apple Private Cloud Compute
Apple Private Cloud Compute (PCC) is off by default in the Document Assistant. If you enable “Use Apple PCC for document analysis,” the app sends extracted document text needed for a summary or answer, together with your question where applicable, to Apple’s PCC service. This feature does not send the original PDF file. Long documents may require multiple requests. Submitted text may include personal, confidential or sensitive information contained in your document. Apple handles PCC requests under its own privacy and security practices. FormlyConvert does not operate PCC servers or receive a copy of your submitted text or the response through its own server.
If PCC is off, the assistant uses local passage matching. If PCC is unavailable, its quota is reached or a request fails, the app may fall back to local matching and identify the engine used. A request already submitted may have been processed by Apple before a failure or fallback. Turning PCC off stops submission in future analyses but cannot recall a request already sent.
Audio and video transcription
The Audio or Video to Text tool turns the speech in a recording or video you choose into text. It requires iOS speech recognition permission; the app does not use the microphone for this feature. Recognition runs on your device by default. If the language you choose is not available for on-device recognition, the app tells you before the job starts and uses Apple’s speech recognition servers only if you agree for that single job. Your consent is not saved and is asked again next time. In that case the audio of the recording is sent to Apple and handled under Apple’s own privacy practices; it does not pass through a FormlyConvert server, and the resulting file is labeled accordingly. On newer iOS versions, the first use of a language may download a language pack from Apple; your recording is not sent for that download.
While a job runs, the app keeps a private temporary copy of the file and short audio segments on your device and deletes them when the job finishes, fails or is cancelled. The transcript is saved as a PDF, Word or text file in History. If you open it in the Document Assistant, the Document Assistant and PCC terms above apply.
Assistant results and storage
Assistant questions and results normally remain in the current in-app session. Copying a result writes it to the device clipboard. Saving a summary as PDF creates a local file and adds it to History. Sharing or saving it elsewhere is your choice. You can delete managed History items; backups and copies elsewhere may remain. Verify important generated information against the original document.
Advertising and diagnostics
For eligible free users, the app uses Google Mobile Ads. The service may process IP address, device or advertising identifiers, ad interactions, diagnostics and performance data to deliver and measure ads. If you deny iOS tracking permission, the app requests non-personalized ads; this may not stop all data processing by the provider. The app also initializes Firebase, which may process analytics and diagnostic data depending on the enabled services and configuration. The app does not intentionally send document text to advertising or analytics services. See Google's Privacy Policy for Google's data practices.
In-app purchases
Apple processes purchases and subscriptions. We do not receive your full payment card details. You can manage subscriptions through the App Store.
Children’s privacy
FormlyConvert does not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices and changes
You can leave PCC off, decline Apple server recognition for a transcription job, manage tracking permission in iOS Settings, delete local History items, turn iCloud Library sync off and remove the app. Apple and Google may retain service data under their own policies. If this policy changes, the date above will be updated and material changes will be communicated as required by law. Your rights under applicable law remain unaffected.
